School History

Our school was established in the 47^th year of the Republic of China.  It attached to Mingjian Junior Middle School (the present Mingjian Junior High School ) and was named as Sanguang Branch.  It was renamed as Sanguang Junior Middle School independently in August of the 51^st year of the Republic of China.  Due to the implementation of the nine-year national education in August of the 57 ^th year of the Republic of China, it was renamed as Sanguang Junior High School.

Location & Surrounding

      Sanguang Junior High School is located in the middle of Mingjian Township.  Most of the students gratuated from Gongxie Elementary School, Zhongshan Elementary School, Mingkang Primary School, and  Qiaoxing Elementary School.  Parents of this school district mainly make a living on the land; they grow tea plants and pineapples.  In other words, Sanguang is a typical rural school.

Meaning of School Name

     The school name “Sanguang” originated from the famous Chinese wisdom book “Three Character Classic”(San Zi Jing).  In this ancient book, it says “Tri-lights, a boon; Sun, stars, moon. ”  Therefore, our school name implies the vigour of the three luminaries.

       Sun: The sun is a symbol of energy.  It corresponds to one of the core competencies of 12-Year Basic Education,namely, spontaneity.  We hope our students are energetic and self-confident.

Moon: The full moon is a symbol of beauty.  It corresponds to one of the core competencies “communicationand Interaction.”  With the smooth parent-teacher communication, we create maximum    benefit for our students.

Stars: The stars respresent attractive glamour.  And they

 corresponds to one of the core competencies  “social

 participation”.  We build a warm and harmonious campus culture.  Therefore, our school works well in a team environment.

School Vision

    We believe that the essential role of school is to guide the students to develop mature character.  Thus we provide our students with a prosperous learning environment, in the hope that they grow up to be grateful, creative, energetic,and positive.  Furthermore, they learn it’s important to seize every opportunity to broaden their horizons and to devote themselves to a bright future.

Campus

Our campus has a total area of 21010.69 square meters.  It was rebuilt in the 93^rd and 95 ^th year of the Republic of China separately.  It’s also worth mentioning that on the 60^th school anniversary, the three main buildings were named according to the school name: XIANG YANG LOU (Administration Building), MAN YUE LOU(Teaching Building),and CAN XING LOU(Specialist Building ).  Nowadays, we possess modern hardware facilities, green and beautiful environment and a library with plenty of books.  All above provide our students superior circumstances.   

Student Achievement

    Our school has cultivated countless excellent people.  One of our alumni, Dr. Cai Rui-xiong(蔡瑞胸), not only a chair professor of University of Chicago but also an academician of Academia Sinica, is the most outstanding in academic field.  Moreover, many of the alumnae and alumni have become significant people in all walks of life.  During these years, with the cooperation of all teachers,students and parents, we’ve made our school a “three good” school (good in character, study, and capability).  We guide students to possess the spirit of humanism and cultural conservation.  We also encourage studnets to execute the unity of knowledge and action and become active learners.   With all the efforts, Sanguang has transformed into a school which the teachers and students feel proud of.

School Characteristics

* Character Education:

 It’s a big honor for Sanguang to receive the award of Character Education Featured school by Ministry of Education.  We think good character is essential so that we make great efforts to guide students proper behavior in daily life.   

    *Reading Education:

Sanguang has won “Best Reading Award of Junior High Schools” twice.  We value students’ reading education very highly.  Sanguang develop a school-based curriculum to promote students’ reading comprehension abilities and develop interests in reading.  We encourage students to read by themselves, think clearly and creatively.

 

 

    * Multiple student clubs:

     

We offer extracurricular activities with various student clubs to help students develop multiple intelligences.         Both of our music clubs, namely Sanguang Chinese Orchestra and Sanguang Wind Band, have won the first prize in Nantou County music contests several times.  These two music clubs also represent Nantou County to join national music contests and acquire awesome grades.   

  * School baseball team:

In addition to several sports clubs, Sanguang established baseball team in the 105^th year of the Republic of China.  Our baseball team has made outstanding achievements and has won the champion in several national youth baseball games.

*Crafts and Skills Programs:

We offer career path courses of vocational groups to ninth graders to enhance career exploration.  Students who take these courses can learn the practical application of knowledge and skills.  By helping students understand their own aptitudes and interests, we inspire them to be more active and positive in their career planning as well.  Notably, our students have showed impressive results in Nantou County crafts and skills competitions in recent years.
